Rule of Abbasid Caliphate- Reid
Politically- Took down the Umayyad dynasty. Was the third of the Islam Caliphates. Even though they were apart of the Sunnis, they allied with the Shias and non muslims. The Umayyad Dynasty did not treat the non muslims very good. This was a reason why the Abbasid Empire seemed more appealing to others. They treated everyone equally. The Abbasid empire did not expand forcefully, but from influencing the people around them to join the Abbasid ways. With the land that they had, the empire set up provinces which were ruled by governors. Religious leaders and judges ruled locally. Set up a bureaucracy.
Economically- Made the city of Baghdad the capital. Set up a tax system in the empire. They also relied on trade and manufacturing to help with the economy. The empire was able to trade on the silk road. The land was similar to the Byzantine Empire because of where it was located. Trade was able to flourish because of where they were located.
Downfall- Civil war between harun al rashid's sons broke out after harun had died. This caused chaos within the dynasty, so the governors of the provinces took advantage of the chaos and acted independently and didn't follow any rules set by the central government. Some even seceded from the government. Also uprisings and and rebellious we're going on. All of this brought the Abbasid empire to a decline and eventually fell to the mongols because of how weak the empire was.
